SULAIMANI — Spokesperson for Iraq’s Ministry of Health Said Badr said on Saturday (June 26) that the third wave of COVID-19 has reached the country.
Badr told state-run Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the new surge in cases is more severe and dangerous than the first two.
He said that the ministry has expanded plans to increase the number of vaccine and vaccination centers.
Confronting the new wave requires focusing on prevention methods, most importantly wearing masks and practicing social distancing, as well as vaccination, Badr added.
According to the ministry, there have been 1,321,232 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus across Iraq since the virus first appeared in the country last year. At least 1,226,959 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and a total of 17,061 people have died from it in Iraq.
