SULAIMANI — Iraq’s Ministry of Health said on Friday (June 25) it recorded 5,325 new coronavirus infections and 34 deaths in the country over the past 24 hours.
Of that total, 1,554 of the newest cases are in Baghdad governorate, along with 743 in Basra, 513 in Wasit, 394 in Najaf, 292 in Maysan, 270 in Karbala, 219 in Duhok, 216 in Sulaimani, 202 in Diwaniya, 170 in Babil, 156 in Diyala, 135 in Erbil, 117 in Kirkuk, 112 in Nineveh, 87 in Muthanna, 56 in Dhi Qar, 49 in Anbar, and 40 in Saladin.
The ministry reported that 34 patients died from COVID-19, the disease caused by coronavirus infection, and 5,325 recovered from it.
Meanwhile, 26,521 people were vaccinated in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region over the past 24 hours, including 725 people in Erbil, 680 in Sulaimani, and 693 in Duhok.
According to the ministry, 842,964 people have been vaccinated in Iraq, a country of more than 40 million, since the first shipment of vaccines arrived on February 28.
There have been 1,316,418 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus across Iraq since the virus first appeared in the country last year. At least 1,222,494 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and a total of 17,033 people have died from it in Iraq.
The numbers are almost certainly an undercount.
