SULAIMANI — Iraqi Shia cleric Moqtada al-Sadr said on Tuesday (June 12) that he has come to an agreement with Hadi al-Amiri to align their lists and form largest bloc in the next Iraqi Parliament.
Sadr, whose political bloc won a May 12 parliamentary election, said during a joint press conference with Amiri, "The new government will be inclusive of all national blocs."
“The new coalition with Fatah is within the national framework and will maintain the tripartite alliance of Sairoon, al-Hikma, and the National Alliance (Watani List),” he added.
The alliance of al-Fatah, led by Amiri, will join Sadr’s Sairoon to form the next Iraqi government, said the spokesman for al-Fatah alliance Ahmed Asadi.
He said any other political alliance who prefers the coalition between Sairoon and al-Fatah can join them, otherwise they can become an effective opposition.
A month passed and no agreement has been reached between the largest four blocs in the Iraqi parliamentary election to form a new government.
Iraqi Parliament passed a bill for nationwide recount of votes cast during parliamentary election held on May 12, after widespread reports of fraud.
A fire broke out on Sunday at one of the warehouses where ballots from Iraq’s national elections were being stored ahead of the full manual recount.
