SULAIMANI — Former Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker was spotted by Vogue carrying a copy of imprisoned Kurdish politician Selahattin Demirtas ‘ new book “Dawn,” as she left a building in New York City.

The US fashion and lifestyle magazine wrote on Thursday (December 13) that “Parker clutched the ultimate thinking woman’s accessory: her favorite novel.”

“Proving she is a real New Yorker—subway commutes mean a good book or podcast is necessary—she carried a copy of ‘Dawn’ by Selahattin Demirtas, a collection of essays written by a leading Kurdish politician in Turkey, who wrote the book while behind bars.”

The book, which is due out in the US this spring, is published by Parker’s imprint SPJ Hogarth in association with Penguin Random House.

The publishing group describes the book on its website as an “unforgettable collection from one of Turkey’s leading politicians and most powerful storytellers.”

“In this essential collection, Selahattin Demirtas’ arresting stories capture the voices of ordinary people living through extraordinary times,” it adds.

On Thursday, a Turkish court ordered that the former co-chair of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) remain in jail.

He has been in pre-trial detention since November 2016, accused of managing a "terrorist organization," making "terrorist propaganda" and "inciting others to commit crimes"  and could be sentenced to up to 142 years in prison if he is found guilty.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) last month lambasted the pre-trial detention of Demirtas, as politically motivated and ordered his release, which the Turkish government has resisted so far.
