SULAIMANI — Head of Bardarash Health Directorate Nashwan Tofiq said on Wednesday (June 30) that the number of people treated for food poisoning at local hospitals after eating fish at a restaurant in the district has increased to 132.
The initial estimate that seventeen people had been sickened.
Of the total, 115 of the affected people were from Akre and seventeen from Khazir and Bardarash.
Tofiq told NRT that once officials were informed of the suspected cause, the restaurant in question was closed down and the owner detained.
He said that health and safety monitors took samples of the fish for testing at a laboratory in Duhok, though results are still pending.
The patients received treatment and are in stable condition.
