SULAIMANI — Staff at Baban Bank in Sulaimani governorate went on strike on Monday (June 28) in response to a plan by management to increase the number of working days without a commensurate increase in compensation.
A representative of the strikers told NRT that “70 percent of the employees stopped working” because of increase in the number of work days from four to five per week.
He added that electricity outages were causing frustration for the staff during the sweltering summer.
“Even cooling devices do not help employees' rooms and salary distribution halls,” the representative said of areas where the public bank’s staff distributes cash to government employees on pay day.
