SULAIMANI – About 100 people were deported via the Ibrahim Khalil border crossing to the Kurdistan Region and other parts of Iraq by the Turkish government while trying to migrate to Europe.

Speaking to NRT, the head of Kurdistan Region's Migration Federation, Ari Jalal, said that Turkey continues to deport people that it detains.

Some of the detained migrants are released after intervention by Migration Federation and other organizations, Jalal said.

He said earlier this week that Turkey handed over eight immigrants to Syrian militant group Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, part of which was formerly known as the Nusra Front.

Statistics show that over 250,000 people have traveled to Turkey in the last three years in attempts to migrate to Europe.

Over 200 people have died and nearly 50 people are missing.
