SULAIMANI — Iraq’s Ministry of Health said on Wednesday (June 30) it recorded 7,300 new coronavirus infections and 30 deaths in the country over the past 24 hours.
Of that total, 1,810 of the newest cases are in Baghdad governorate, along with 1,160 in Basra, 565 in Wasit, 430 in Karbala, 396 in Dhi Qar, 389 in Maysan, 385 in Najaf, 286 in Duhok, 273 in Sulaimani, 253 in Diwaniya, 252 in Nineveh, 249 in Babil, 242 in Diyala, 191 in Muthanna, 164 in Erbil, 150 in Kirkuk, 70 in Saladin, and 35 in Anbar.
The ministry reported that 30 patients died from COVID-19, the disease caused by coronavirus infection, and 4,550 recovered from it.
Meanwhile, 28,850 people were vaccinated in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region over the past 24 hours, including 1,296 people in Sulaimani, 1,342 in Duhok, and 662 people in Erbil.
According to the ministry, 896,063 people have been vaccinated in Iraq, a country of more than 40 million, since the first shipment of vaccines arrived on February 28.
There have been 1,345,904 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus across Iraq since the virus first appeared in the country last year. At least 1,245,528 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and a total of 17,186 people have died from it in Iraq.
The numbers are almost certainly an undercount.
