SULAIMANI – The co-chairs of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP), Pervin Buldan and Sezai Temelli, said in a statement on Friday (December 14) that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Justice and Development Party (AKP) were trying to secure votes from Turkish nationalists by bombing targets in the Kurdistan Region.

Municipal elections in Turkey are set to take place on March 31, 2019.

“Erdogan’s attacks are not acceptable legally and politically,” they said.

Buldan and Temelli called on Erdogan not to engage in provocative actions and encouraged the public not to be silent in the face of attacks against the Kurds.

On Thursday night, Turkish warplanes bombed Gir Ozer and Gali Shlu in Sinjar, Qarachukh mountain, and refugee camps in Makhmour, which killed four people. There are conflicting reports whether the deceased were members of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) or civilians.

A source in Makhmour told NRT Digital Media that warplanes had been spotted circling the area since Wednesday.

“Our air force has bombed Shingal and Qarachukh Mountain in order to protect our borders,” the Turkish defense ministry said in a statement after the strikes.
