SULAIMANI – A number of Ezidis were prevented on Friday (December 14) from entering Sinjar city by a KDP-affiliated force.
They had planned to take part in an Ezidi religious holiday known as the Fasting and Feast of Ezi, said NRT Digital Media reporter Nazir Shangali.
Shangali explained that around 100 people tried to enter Sinjar city, but were stopped by a party-affiliated unit at the Shela checkpoint.
They were told that the unit had received an order not to permit people to travel to Sinjar by that route, but did not give further details.
The three-day holiday is expected to attract a number of government and party officials to Sinjar.
Earlier, Speaker of the Council of Representatives Mohammed al-Halbusi and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Nadia Murad visited the Lalish Temple in Shekhan district to mark the holiday.
